Satellite Communications: Internet challenges and strategies for low-latency applications
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper analyzes several mitigation strategies and techniques that could enable delay sensitive applications to work properly over satellite IP networks. A study is conducted on different satellite classes (GEO, MEO and LEO) and the analysis of the current solutions for real-time interactive applications is performed. The great distance from Earth results in an important RTT, which is the main aspect to consider for real-time interactive applications. To date, the multi-layered architecture seems to be the best way to go, since it overcomes the drawbacks of the single layer approaches. This, in turn, creates traffic balancing and quality of service concerns that are also discussed according to the

Role of the Globalization of Communications (Internet and Satellite) on Young Womenâs Leisure Time (Case study: Young Women in Mazandaran)
Today, leisure time is changing by globalization and using of information technology. Most of people especially women prefer to spend their leisure time by modern technologies. Thus, they spend their leisure time to look up satellite programs and use of the internet. This research has done for sociological consideration of the globalization of communications (internet & satellite) on leisure t...
متن کاملA Simulation Study of QoS for TCP over LEO Satellite Networks with Differentiated Services
A number of satellite communication systems have been proposed using geosynchronous (GEO) satellites, medium earth orbit (MEO) and low earth orbit (LEO) constellations operating in the Ka-band and above. The next generation broadband satellite systems will use fast packet switching with onboard processing to provide full two-way services to and from earth stations. New services gaining momentum...
متن کاملTechnical Challenges and Performance of Satellite Communications on-the-Move Systems
113 INTRODUCTION The growing demand from the commercial and military sectors for on-the-move communications at high data rates has generated interest in a new type of satellite terminal. These terminals can provide broadband communications from maritime vessels, trains, airplanes, land vehicles, and other transportation systems. Although the interest in the commercial sector is primarily in bro...

Communication in the whole of the World is revolutionized with the advent of Satellites. Satellite Communication has served mankind in many ways e.g. to predict weather, storm warning, provide wide range of communication services in the field of relaying television programs, digital data for a multitudes of business services and most recent in telephony and mobile communication. It may not surp...
متن کاملCharacterizing SPDY over High Latency Satellite Channels
The increasing complexity of Web contents and the growing diffusion of mobile terminals, which use wireless and satellite links to get access to the Internet, impose the adoption of more specialized protocols. In particular, we focus on SPDY, a novel protocol introduced by Google to optimize the retrieval of complex webpages, to manage large Round Trip Times and high packet losses channels. In ...
